"The Sainsbury's own cream of chicken soup was nearly £1 cheaper than Heinz, the same price as the Asda and Tesco version and only 13p more expensive than Aldi's and 16p more than Lidl's. "There was a clear winner for me here," said Zoe. Costing 75p per can, I gave it 3 out of 5 stars." Overall verdict I felt it was creamy and had plenty of chicken. "The Asda soup looked similar to the Heinz as it was very pale in colour. Half a can contains 6.2g fat (1.2g saturates), 1g of sugar and 1g of salt. Zoe said: " Asda Cream of Chicken Soup contains three per cent chicken and a 'splash of double cream'. This was the cheapest of all the soups - at just 59p a can - so I gave it 2 out of 5 stars." Asda Cream of Chicken Soup Like the Tesco soup, there were visible chunks of chicken in it. It was runnier than the others and, once again, tasted of chicken stock. "This soup was pretty similar to the Tesco version. "Half a can contains 5.4g fat (1.2g saturates), 1.2g sugar and 0.92g salt. " Newgate Cream of Chicken soup from Lidl contains British chicken, but it doesn't say how much," said Zoe. I gave it 1 out of 5 stars." Lidl Cream of Chicken Soup Not very pleasant, I wouldn't bother with this one again. It had plenty of chicken but a very strong taste, and smell of chicken stock. It was much thinner than any of the others, a bit more broth-like even though it was called cream of chicken. "I was surprised when I poured out the Tesco soup. Half a can contains 5g fat (0.8g saturates), 0.6g sugar and 0.87g salt - so it was lower in sugar than most. ![]() Zoe said: " Tesco Cream of Chicken Soup contains five per cent chicken - same as Sainsbury's and two per cent more than Heinz. On the website, it was even cheaper as it was price-matched to Aldi at 67p a tin." Aldi Cream of Chicken Soup At 75p a can, it was almost £1 cheaper than Heinz and way more tasty. It seemed creamier than all the others when I poured it out of the tin. "This soup was really creamy with lots of big chunks of juicy chicken. "Half a can contains 6g fat (1.1g saturates), 1g sugar and 0.92g salt. " Sainsbury's Cream of Chicken Soup contains five per cent British chicken," Zoe said. In fact, when I tasted all of the - much cheaper - supermarket-own brand varieties, I found there was nowhere near as much chicken in the original Heinz as there was in the rest. So it had a much higher sugar content than the others. Half a can contained 5.9g fat (0.9g saturates), 2.3g sugar and 1.1g salt. "The can said it contained three per cent chicken. Whilst it was smooth and creamy, I found the flavour pretty bland. "At £1.70 a can from Sainsbury's, I figured I was in for a treat. "It's been a while since I had any original Heinz soup," said Zoe.
